About the advisor
MARK EDWARD SKANDIER, eSQ.
Mark was born and raised north of Boston, where from a young age, he stood out academically. As early as middle school, Mark found himself attending high school math classes, serving as captain of the academic bowl, president of his class, and sole student-speaker at his 8th grade graduation.
Mark’s proudest accomplishment from that young age, was convincing his middle school principal to allow him to create something that Mark called, “Peer Mediation,” where, upon request by a student, or recommendation by a teacher, students could request to speak with Mark, who would attempt to help them to mediate their problems.
“I still can’t believe they let me do that — I hope it still exists today, because it really worked!” Mark says.
“The so-called “nerds” were the ones getting picked on, but they were my friends… We often compared our A+ scores, to see who got the 100% and who got the 97%. And the bullies respected me because they knew I was captain of the wrestling team, and I was generally well respected among our peers - even the ‘misbehavers’. Many people when I was young told me I had an old soul. I guess Peer Mediation put a stamp on that.”
After middle school, Mark attended the well known, all-boys, St. John’s Prep, in Danvers Massachusetts. While at St. John’s, Mark graduated in the National Honor Society, was a four-year varsity wrestler, and captain of the team, and earned academic All-American status. He recalls walking out of the S.A.T exam: “My parents asked how it went, and I responded, “I got one wrong in Math.” Years later Mark skipped his own Law School graduation to be the key-note speaker at his wrestling coach’s Hall of Fame Induction ceremony — one of the greatest honors of his life.
After St. John’s Prep, Mark attended Providence College, UMass, and Vermont Law School, where he graduated with a business law certificate, and juris doctor.
He began his career working for a well-know billionaire’s private, family-office investment company, working directly with the general counsel. This opportunity provided insight into such a vast array of financial, tax, economic, and legal strategies, that Mark often states, “I learned more during that time than any school could teach me.”
Working primarily with the clients’ Dynasty Trust investments - Mark got a front row seat to all the financial and legal strategies employed by the nation’s wealthiest 0.01%.
Within a few years, Mark branched out and opened “Private Wealth Counsel” a Boutique Estate Planning Law Firm. As an attorney, Mark has taught continuing education to other attorneys, financial planners, and CPAs. His biggest referral source other than his own clients, is actually other estate planning attorneys, who encounter a case too big or too complex to handle themselves, and send it to Mark.
After years of collaborating with and educating financial planners, Mark decided he could do the best job for his clients, and opened “Private Wealth Advisors” a Registered Investment Advisor, focused on serving high net worth individuals and families.
Since then, Mark and his assistant, Cassandra, have been assisting successful families to maximize the success of their trust, tax, and financial strategies. Mark credits his history as a teacher and coach as the primary reason he’s able to break down and simplify complex topics for his clients.
In his free time, Mark enjoys spending time being active with his wife and two young children, as well as “any sport or physical activity you can imagine... It’s a problem for me, (he says with a chuckle). All I want to do is be active, but my real strengths lie in crunching numbers, being creative, and solving problems — so the minute I’m free from the computer, I’m looking, in one-way-shape-or-form, to play outside with my family.”
